As you probably already know, Universal Orlando is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city and in the entire state of Florida. According to the company, 2007 was its best year yet, and that is saying something.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that the company has stated that during the year 2007 it earned a whopping $92 million. This amount is twice the earnings that it made during the year 2006. While the dollar amount is certainly good news for the company and local economy, the number of visitors is impressive too. It gets better. The parent company of Universal Orlando also reported that total attendance for the Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventure theme parks increased by a tidy 3 percent during the year 2007.
Bill Davis, the group’s president, said that improvement in the overall guest experience was one of the reasons behind the success experienced last year. “We picked up tremendous momentum in the third quarter of 2007 and continued that performance into the fourth quarter behind Halloween Horror Nights and an excellent holiday tourism season thanks to Grinchmas and the Macy’s Holiday Parade.”
For those who are new to Orlando or for those who may not know, it should be noted that Universal Orlando is the second largest theme park in Orlando. Top honors for that status go to the Walt Disney World Resort attractions.
While the above numbers represent only theme parks, the overall economic sense in Orlando is one of optimism. As more visitors come to Orlando, the local economy is also rewarded. many merchants, big and small, are reporting improved sales as Orlando becomes a more popular visitor destination. This optimism has brought about a flurry of activity by merchants and parks to keep attractions fresh and exciting.
