Sand Key is a barrier island located in Clearwater, Florida between the Gulf of Mexico and the mainland of Florida. It encompasses ninety-five acres. It was opened up to the public twenty-five years ago, and residents and visitors have been partaking of the serenity and beauty found here ever since. The park has two main areas for public enjoyment; the beach area and the park area.

Visitors can have their very own cookout in the park area which has two picnic shelters both of which include grills. There’s a playground for the kids to romp around on, and cabanas that you can rent. Don’t worry if you require a wheelchair. The beach has two beach wheelchairs at your disposal. There are also two bathhouses for changing into and out of your swimming clothes. Restroom facilities are located at the bathhouses as well. From March to September there is a lifeguard on duty for your safety. It should be noted that although boating and jet skiing are super fun water activities, these types of water sports are not allowed at the park.

The park area of Sand Key Park offers patrons nine different boardwalks; all of which lead to the beach. The salt marsh is the perfect spot to get a glimpse of the indigenous bird life that call Sand Key Park their home. Bring your camera and capture the heron, roseate spoonbill, great horned owl, anhinga, and common moorhen as they nest and feed in their natural habitat. Also, there is a spot along the beach where sea turtles deposit their eggs each year during their breeding season.
