All About Orlando

Visitors to Orlando, Florida often come for the many exciting and interesting attractions. Tops among these attractions are, of course, the theme parks and the many wonderful natural locations that draw in people from the world over. But there are also some other events that might be of interest to visitors and two of the more unique events that visitors can enjoy involve the dessert favorite - pie.

If you happen to be in Orlando during the month of April you may want to visit one of the two pie events that will be held during that month.

The Lakeside Park in Orlando town centre will host the Great American Pie Festival on April 19 and 20. If it has to do with pie, you will find it here. The event is planned to host many different activities that visitors will find entertaining as well as educational. Among the events planned are several different cooking classes and demonstrations. There will also be classes in pie making geared toward children. Of course, there will be pie eating contests with prizes. And among one of the most loved features of the event is the “never ending” pie buffet that will present all sorts of pies for those in attendance.

The second big event that is planned for pie lovers in Orlando is the National Pie Championships. This event will take place on April 18 through April 20. It will be held at the Orlando Sun Resort and Convention Center.

The National Pie Championships has been taking place since 1995 in both the United States and in Canada. The event is marked as a national level meeting place for both professional bakers as well as amateur pie makers from the world over. Many commercial equipment companies will also be present featuring their newest gadgets and innovations.

Even though the event will host many professionals, there are several amateur events planned as well and these are often some of the most popular. For example, there are pie contests in which amateur pie makers enter their best efforts in categories such as the classic pie flavor. The flavors include chocolate, cherry, cream cheese, and raisin. Professional bakers will also compete but they will offer up their best efforts in apple, citrus, chocolate, and various other fruit and berry pies.

Each of the above events is organized and sanctioned by the American Pie Council which is the only recognized organization in the US committed to promoting the American pie experience and heritage.
