Orlando is More than Theme Parks

Many people who visit Orlando, Florida wish to do more than visit the theme parks. But what is available? The good news is there are many venues of fun and entertainment other than the theme parks.

One such venue that you might want to visit is the the Courtyard at Lake Lucerne. This is a charming inn that is within walking distance of Orlando’s business district. The venue comprises four historical buildings, one of them Orlando’s oldest house.

The historic Norment-Perry Inn dates from 1883. It has six guest rooms with private baths and four of those have sitting areas. It was built for Judge Richard B. Norment, who happened to be a dwarf. This explains its diminutive proportions. Windows are located very close to the floor, staircase banisters are low as well, and the balcony overlooking the backyard courtyard seems just the right height for a small person or child.

Another building located at the venue is the yellow, Queen Anne Victorian-style Dr. Phillips House. This house contains a wealth of antique furniture and marble baths. The dining room, where breakfast is served daily, looks out over a lush courtyard and gazebo, where hundreds of couples have exchanged wedding vows.

The third building that visitors can see is the Wellborn building, circa 1946. This was the first apartment building constructed in Orlando after World War II. Art deco was all the style at that time and visitors can see plenty of that here.

The fourth building, known as the I.W. Phillips House, was built in 1916 for Dr. Philip Phillips’ son. Beautiful verandas overlook the lovely courtyard where statues of angels flank planters of thick ferns. The suites are decorated with antique furniture and paintings.

These are only a few of the many attractions that visitors to Orlando can see and experience. The truth is there are many things to do that are off the beaten path and have nothing to do with the theme parks. One thing that can be said about Orlando is that there is something for everyone!
