Leisure at Loch Haven Park

Are you looking for a true way to relax while vacationing in Orlando, Florida? How about an afternoon at Loch Haven Park.

The park is owned and operated by the city of Orlando and is open every day from 5am to sunset. There is no entrance fee to enjoy the 45 acres of meandering trails and lake front views. This truly is the region’s premier cultural park nestled amongst the three lakes of:

* Lake Estelle
* Lake Rowena
* Lake Formosa

Pack a picnic lunch and sit amongst the shade of the giant oak trees. Or how about going on a tree hunt for the area’s largest and oldest oak trees; “The Mayor”. See how many arms it takes to wrap around this arborous wonder that has stood through wild storms and threatening weather.

The park was newly renovated in 2001 and is home to many museums and theater groups. It also houses several camps and educational programs for the areas youth and elder communities.

Once you take a leisurely walk through the trails of the park then perhaps wander to the Mennello Museum of American Folk Art. There is an entrance fee for the museum, but it is a nominal one that offers pricing structure for adults, seniors, and students; children under 12 are admitted for free. The museum offers traveling exhibits, lectures, and house exhibits that will be enjoyed by all the members of your party. For your younger travlers, you can entertain them at the museum by going on a search and find hunt amongst the exhibits. For example, for those just learning their shapes, pick a shape and see if they can find that shape hidden in the different art forms. Then pick another shape or color and do the same. You will be teaching them to appreciate art and sculpture while they are learning and having fun.

Central Florida is filled with theme parks, stores, restaurants, and things to entertain. Why not kick it down a notch or two and enjoy a day at a local park and museum? Check out Loch Haven Park.
