Lake Eola

How about spending a relaxing day, in the Florida sun, while paddling around one of Florida’s many natural lakes? This is a great way to spend some time while on vacation; you will truly relax.

Lake Eola is located in downtown Orlando, Florida. It was formed by a sinkhole, like many of the other lakes and ponds of the area. This 23 acre natural lake and the surrounding land was donated to Orlando in the 1880’s; it is as if someone new the area would be flooded with buildings and there would be a need for nature.

This centerpiece of the city is known for its paddle boats and fountains. The original fountain was built in 1912 and then redone in 1957. Many people will take a stroll during their lunch break, but it is used by all that visit the area.

This natural gem is open every day from 6:00am to 12:00am, so there is always a time to go and enjoy. There is no admission cost to enjoy the park. You could pack a picnic, find some shade, and enjoy the day.

Do you want to discover the lake itself? How about renting one of the famed swan shaped paddle boats? Or check out the electric gondolas. This will give you a close up of the birds and other wildlife that make this area their home.

Take a stroll around the lake on the convenient sidewalk; this short walk is doable for most visitors and gives you another opportunity to see the swans and other birds of the area. You could even take a moment and feed these friendly fowl.

Check out the Walt Disney Amphitheater for a live musical performance. You can bring a blanket and sit to soak up some sun and take in the atmosphere.

Central Florida has so many things to keep you busy, but how about slowing it down for a bit. Take a day or an afternoon and enjoy the Lake Eola Park. There are play areas and areas to sit and relax. You will not be disappointed, so check it out when planning and enjoying your vacation.
