Halloween in Orlando 2009
Want to do something special for Halloween this year? How about a trip to Orlando, Florida where you can have the best Halloween experience ever?
Every year, Central Florida’s theme parks work hard to put together some of the very best Halloween shows in the US. You can find everything from the headless horseman to haunted houses all in one city.
Here is what you can expect for 2008:
Horror Nights at Universal Orlando: Universal Orlando warns this event “may be too intense for young children” and parents may want to take heed to that warning. For those who have the nerve to visit, the entire area becomes a scream fest. This show has been around for eighteen years now and that long experience is evident in the quality of horror that visitors experience. Nowhere is safe, be in the houses or in the streets, ghoulish creatures abound.
Halloween Horror Nights are presented on Sept. 26-27; Oct. 2-5, 9-12, 16-19, 22-26, 29-31; and Nov. 1.
Visitors are not allowed to wear costumes or masks.
Single night admission is $69.99. A whole variety of other tickets are also available including Frequent Fear Passes for more economical multiple visits; and Stay and Scream tickets, which are upgraded tickets that have Horror Nights added to regular daytime Universal Orlando parks’ admission). Gory Getaway Packages including two nights’ lodging in Orlando, tickets and other features are priced from $232 per adult.
Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay: This is a great venue for those who like being scared. This year, Howl-O-Scream will feature new haunted houses, so-called scare zones, and a whole host of thrilling shows. And don’t forget the nerve rattling roller coasters in the dark.
Intended for adult audiences only, Howl-O-Scream is presented on 17 select nights Oct. 2-Nov. 1 (a Freaky Preview is featured on Sept. 26-27). General admission is $64.95. A variety of Unlimited Fear passes is offered including the Recurring Nightmare: 10 nights for the price of one, $64.95; Freaky Preview tickets are $44.95. For details, visit www.howl-o-scream.com.
If you need something more kid friendly, check out Mickey’s Not-So Scary Halloween Party. This annual event is one of the most popular attractions in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Your little ones will love Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade which features a spooky headless horseman along with the Disney characters all parading around in their costumes. Kids can bring their costumes too.
The family friendly party also offers opportunities to go trick-or-treating at a variety of locations in the park. The Happy HalloWishes Fireworks display, where Disney villains go trick-or-treating in the sky, is one of the evening’s highlights.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is presented on select evenings from Sept. 5 to Oct. 31. Advance tickets (available some evenings) are $42.95 (ages 3-9) and $48.95 (ages 10 and up). Day of event tickets cost $49.95 (ages 3-9) and $55.95 (ages 10 and up).
