Cocoa Beach

How about a day at the beach? Are you planning a vacation to Central Florida? Well, then you should take a day of lines and crowds and soak up a little of the Florida sun.

Florida’s beautiful weather is carried to its beaches. Cocoa Beach is only 45 minutes from Orlando, so you can spend the day at the beach without having to change lodging or spending the whole day on the road. There are several beaches to choose from that will offer a day of lounging, a day of activities, or perhaps do a little of both. There are 16 beaches and parks that you can experience in the Cocoa Beach area. A few examples are:

• For the surfer – Cherie Down Park for the novice and for the more experienced there is the Beach at 13th Street; a bowl of surf with two breaks less then 100 yards of each other.

• Wheelchair accessible – Canaveral National Seashore at the Playalinda Beach and Jetty Park at Cape Canaveral.

• Kid friendly – Jetty Park has a picnic area, restrooms with changing areas, a playground, and volleyball nets.

• Secluded – Canaveral National Seashore is still fairly underdeveloped, so make sure you pack your own lunch. There are sandy dunes and green pine groves that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. There are fewer crowds so you can quietly take a stroll along the shore.

• Coconut Point Park – Turtles are known to nest in this area. The pier offers great restaurants, pubs, and music. Make sure you take the kids to Ricky’s ice cream parlor for a gooey sundae and check out the fantastic 3D sea-creatures that decorate the place.

Central Florida has exciting theme parks, award winning restaurants, shopping, night life, sports, and more, but what if you want to chill out for the day? Heading to the beach for the day is a wonderful way to soak up some of Florida’s sun and relax for the day. Make sure you bring the sunscreen and camera. Take a stroll along the shore, find a new type of seashell, let your toes toss some white sand, and listen to the music of the waves. Before you know it, you will be completely relaxed and fully recharged.
