Caldasi Island State Park

Are you looking for a day in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of your vacation? Then you need to check out Caldasi Island State Park.

This is one of the few natural islands along the Florida Gulf Coast and is only accessible via a public ferry. You can catch the ferry at Honeymoon Island State Park. There are adult and child ferry rates and the ferry runs throughout the day.

On Sundays you can join the ranger for a guided tour of the picturesque nature trails. Learn about the cultural history of this unspoiled barrier island and the creatures that call it their home. You will have the opportunity to spot some osprey or gopher tortoise activity. If you have always wanted to try kayaking or you are already an avid kayaker, then you can rent a kayak at the marina and paddle about. There is a mangrove-covered route that takes to you to the St. Joseph Sound and back; you may even see the bottle nosed dolphins that like to frolic in the water.

Make sure you pack the sunscreen so you can fully enjoy the white sandy beaches where you can sunbathe, swim, and beach comb. There are plenty of opportunities for the salt water angler to catch the “big one”. Or perhaps you would like to take a hike throughout the park and discover something new.

There are picnic areas or you can picnic on the beach, but make sure you pick up after yourself so the area can be enjoyed, by others, for many years to come. If you didn’t pack a lunch then you can find something yummy to eat at the snack bar or find that perfect souvenir at the gift shop.

Central Florida is so much more than exciting theme parks and restaurants. There are things in nature that are specific to this area and to see them in person is so much more then to read it in a book. Take a day and enjoy the natural wonders of the area.
