6 Reasons to Visit Florida in the Fall
Halloween Events at the Theme Parks
The months of September and October are packed with Halloween events for both children and adults. On the milder end of the “scary spectrum” are Walt Disney World’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Just as the name implies, this event is tame enough for even the youngest children to enjoy. It takes place over 20 nights, and runs through November 2, 2007. This event requires a separate admission and tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
Another Halloween event suitable for young children is Sea World Orlando’s Halloween Spooktacular. Hosted by Shamu the Killer Whale, the party includes trick-or-treating, a children’s costume parade, a themed Shamu show and a water-ski laser light finale. Best of all, all the fun is included with regular park admission. This year the adventure takes place October 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, 26-28 and 31.
For the thrill seekers, Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights are an annual must-attend event. Definitely geared toward older teens and adults, this event is not for young children. The park hosts a goulish adventure filled with haunted houses, gory characters from horror movies, and maniacal mutants scary enough to rattle even the most unflappable guests. This year the event takes place Sept. 28-29, Oct. 4-7, 11-14, 18-21, 24-28, and Oct. 31-Nov. 3. Separate admission fee is required and tickets can be purchased online.
Also a guaranteed thrill is Busch Garden’s Howl-O-Scream. Three themed shows, five scare zones and six haunted houses are features at this Tampa park during the nights of Oct. 5-6, 11-13, 18-21 and 25-28. Tickets can be purchased online.
Epcot Food and Wine Festival
This festival, held at the Wonders of Life Pavilion at Epcot, runs through November 11, 2007. This twelfth edition of the annual festival features a large selection of foods, beers and wines from around the world, as well as a collection of celebrity chefs, authors and musicians.
Biketober Fest at Daytona Beach
Motorcycle enthusiasts will jam into Daytona Beach on October 18-21. Nearly 100,000 motorcycle fans will be cruising around the growing complex in Ormond Beach that is part of the world’s largest Harley-Davidson dealership. More information can be found at www.biketoberfest.com.
World Space Expo at the Kennedy Space Center
This celebration of 50 years of space exploration will take place from November 1-4, 2007. Four pavilion of exhibits and several special events will take place. Visitors will also be able to access the newly opened $60 million Shuttle Launch Experience. Visit the official website for more details.
Weather
Central Florida enjoys the best weather of the year during the months of October and November. Average temperatures range from 65 deg F to 85 deg. F, and the humidity is low.
Crowds
Typically January, February, October and November are the least crowded times of the year at the theme parks. May through August are the most crowded, since most children are out of school and families are taking advantage of this. With the combination of comfortable temperatures and less crowds, October and November are the ideal times of year to visit the Orlando area.
